Hertfordshire Council Secures £5.8 Million for Active Travel

Hertfordshire Council has been awarded £5,814,232 in funding from the government and Active Travel England (ATE) to support walking, wheeling, and cycling initiatives across the county. This funding is part of a £300 million national effort to create greener, healthier communities.

The investment will enable the council to develop new walking and cycling schemes, improve existing infrastructure, and engage with communities to ensure these changes meet their needs. By making it easier and safer to travel actively, the council aims to improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and support public health.

Councillor Phil Bibby, Executive Member for Highways, said, “This funding is a game-changer for sustainable travel in Hertfordshire. It’s a win for our health, our economy, and our planet.”

Residents can learn more about the council’s Active Travel projects by visiting the dedicated webpage: Improving Walking and Cycling Across Hertfordshire.

This funding marks a significant step forward in creating a more sustainable and connected Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Council Warns Against Weight Loss Injections

Hertfordshire County Council is urging caution over weight loss injectables like Wegovy and Mounjaro, highlighting risks such as nausea, vomiting, and severe complications like pancreatitis or kidney issues. Experts warn these injections don’t address underlying causes of obesity and stress the importance of sustainable lifestyle changes, including diet, exercise, and psychological support.

The council also warns against unregulated online purchases, which risk counterfeit or unsafe products. Medical supervision is essential for safe use. Sustainable, professional-guided approaches remain the best path to long-term weight management.

Applications Close for Stevenage Youth Mayor Role, Election Next

Applications for the Stevenage Youth Mayor role closed at midnight on Sunday, 2 March, marking the end of the first phase in selecting a young leader to represent the borough’s youth. The election process, where candidates will campaign for votes from their peers, is now set to begin.

The successful candidate will take on a one-year term, representing young people at civic events, Council meetings, and managing a Local Youth Budget. They will also raise awareness for a chosen local charity or cause and work closely with the Stevenage Youth Council and the Mayor.

Candidates aged 13 to 19 (or up to 25 with learning difficulties/disabilities) were eligible to apply, with support provided by Stevenage Borough Council and HCC Services for Young People. The election promises to be an exciting opportunity for young voices to shape the future of the community.

Stevenage Fall Short in Thrilling Clash Against Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town 2 | 1 Stevenage FC

Stevenage fought hard but were edged out 2-1 by promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town in a lively League One encounter at The Lamex Stadium.

Huddersfield struck early, with Callum Marshall converting a low cross just two minutes in. Stevenage responded quickly, as Brandon Hanlan’s determined run and emphatic finish leveled the score after 11 minutes. However, Nigel Lowwijk’s header from a corner restored Huddersfield’s lead before halftime.

Stevenage pushed for an equaliser in the second half, with Jamie Reid and Dan Sweeney coming close, but Huddersfield’s defense held firm. Despite a spirited performance, Boro couldn’t find the breakthrough, leaving them empty-handed in a tightly contested match.

While the result was disappointing, Stevenage showed resilience against a strong side, keeping fans hopeful for the games ahead. ⚽
